GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip -- The Gaza police operations room and a Palestinian health official say separate Israeli airstrikes hit the compound of Gaza City's main hospital and a nearby park, causing casualties.
The Israeli military had no immediate comment.
Camera crews were prevented from filming the area of impact at Shifa Hospital. Health official Ayman Sahabani says several people were wounded in the strikes.

(3,709 posts)in an interview with an Israeli government official who admitted Israeli hit the UN school being used as shelter, but denied anyone died. Said once again, Hamas was hiding in the hospital. I am sorry, I do not have a link but I imagine the interview might be on CNN.com.
I realize this is a complicated situation, but the constant bombardment and killing of innocents and children needs to stop.
My question is why not blow the tunnels up from the Israeli side? They did not need to go into Gaza to destroy these tunnels. And why now... if they've known about the tunnels, why were they still usable.
I understand the root issues here and I do not in any way condone any action of any terrorist. What I don't understand is Israel's behavior in this situation. There are other ways.
It's a sad, sad situation and it needs to be resolved, so that no more people die.

(3,596 posts)Quite honestly I think when you are dealing with humans who may have been injured or are trapped, etc. the frigging media needs to be kept away.
You are clearly an Israeli apologist that believes Israel can do no wrong. I am at the point where we should be targeting our drones on the Israeli government. They have become terrorists.
Do you have absolutely no human compassion for hitting a hospital?

(26,060 posts)All the person did was ask why hamas was keeping cameras away and you immediately call them an apologist. You can't possibly believe it's because they don't want anyone to see people injured or trapped. Do I get to call you a terrorist apologist for deciding, without any evidence, that hamas is telling the truth here?

(13,184 posts)"The strike on the park occurred a few minutes after the hospital's outpatient clinic was hit, leaving several people wounded. Camera crews were prevented from filming the area of impact at Shifa."
Maybe it was Hamas. Maybe it was shocked and enraged family members of victims. I've seen some hostility toward Western media in Gaza in the past few days on the part of Gazans. I saw a clip yesterday where a Western camera crew was prevented from filming the retrieval of a body from the rubble. It wasn't Hamas; it was family members.

(34,648 posts)Are you implying that Israel always comes clean when they bomb a hospital? They said they didn't do it last time , now they admit it. We know people were killed last time but they deny any deaths.
They will have to fess up to this one too. Don't assist the cover up. Not cool or rightous.

(19,240 posts)At this point, I don't think it even matters who is firing the missiles. There are children dying. Anyone who has his or her finger on a trigger--any trigger--at this point is equally to blame for every death of every child. And that includes the ones giving the orders to fire, too. If this were a bank robbery, the guy in the get away car would be held liable for anyone shot inside.
Everyone holding a weapon in this conflict needs to put their weapon down or carry the guilt forever. This is not self defense for either side. This is murder.
And why does no one ask the obvious question? How many of the supposed "Hamas" fighters are really agitators who have infiltrated Gaza under orders from Al Qaeda/Saudi Arabia to provoke a war that will kill Palestinian citizens so that Al Qaeda can use their deaths as a recruitment tool? I do not believe that the people of Gaza would knowingly, willingly put their own children at risk like this. However, I can believe that foreigner assassins would do it, if they were paid enough. Or if they were told it was good for the cause. And Israel responds to the provocation as if it does not have a clue that someone somewhere may be poking it with a big stick deliberately.
