US fuming over Israeli criticism of Kerry

WASHINGTON (AP) The Obama administration pushed back strongly Monday at a torrent of Israeli criticism over Secretary of State John Kerry's latest bid to secure a cease-fire with Hamas, accusing some in Israel of launching a "misinformation campaign" against the top American diplomat.
"It's simply not the way partners and allies treat each other," State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said.
Her comments were echoed by the White House, where National Security Adviser Susan Rice said the U.S. was "dismayed" by mischaracterizations of Kerry's efforts. Israeli media reports have cast Kerry as seeking a cease-fire that is more favorable to Hamas and being dismissive of key Israeli concerns.
Kerry himself, in a speech to the Center for American Progress, noted the criticism but did not give ground.

(58,349 posts)there was no need for it.
It sent the message of giving Netanyahu's government a blank check.
Since when has anyone ever doubted than any nation shouldn't have the right to defend itself?
By going on record with such a redundant proclamation, the U.S. hamstrung itself as being an honest broker in trying to evaluate the evidence, determine what was just and negotiate a peaceful resolution with both the Palestinians and the Israelis.
The Palestinians don't trust us and the Israelis believe we will back them no matter what, right or wrong.
Thanks for the thread, Omaha Steve.

(23,946 posts)The avoidance of a good question asked of Bibi's slick media mouthpiece by Wolf Blitzer as to the official Israeli response to the Kerry ceasefire plan was greeted by any avoidance of any follow up to the question being so obviously avoided.
CNN and Blitzer, willing propaganda media agents of Israel in America.
Should have also asked if Israel has stopped spying on America yet, and how many nuclear munitions they have......in another universe they would of course be asked. But propaganda is propaganda, just be aware of it.

(21,925 posts)'strategic terrorist attack.'" (from the article at the link)
Whoa. I hadn't read this story. I did hear on CNN today that Kerry's proposed plan was nearly identical to a plan previously approved by the Israeli government. Something tells me there's a little back and forth behind the scenes that we're not hearing. I think that ever since Obama came to office, some in the Israeli government have been a bit paranoid about whether his administration is really with them. In fact, Israel is probably constantly afraid that the U.S. will one day turn off the spigot of aid and diplomatic backing at the UN. France used to be Israel's closest ally. France was one of the first nations to recognize Israel. They supplied most of the arms and weapons keeping Israel secure in the early days of the Jewish state, including the French Mirages that made up Israel's Air force, selling them "at cost". There's little doubt that Israel has a nuclear bomb and they got it through France, that built Israel's first nuclear research reactor and that gave Israel unfettered access to the data from all their nuclear bomb tests in the south Pacific. Israel and France fought a war as allies in the Suez incident, when French and Israeli troops invaded Egypt together (it was the U.S. and the Soviet Union that moved in warships off the coast and ordered them to stop, or else). That was at a time when France (which doesn't have its own oil) had the oil-producing Algeria. When deGaulle withdrew from Algeria and chose to back Arabs in the region (it's always about the oil, it seems) it may have contributed to Israel's paranoia about former friends pulling the rug out from under them. I wouldn't be surprised that some in the Israeli government would discuss what would happen if the U.S. suddenly stopped the aid and support. Calling Kerry a terrorist has got to indicate more than we are seeing or hearing. That's an astonishing statement.

(53,661 posts)By registering a Democratic Underground account, you agree to abide by these terms.
A single violation of any of these terms could result in your posting privileges being revoked without warning.
The Democratic Underground Administrators have a great deal of confidence in our system of citizen jurors and software tools, but we are well aware that trolls are constantly on the lookout for new ways to cause trouble and therefore on rare occasions it may necessary for us to revoke a member's posting privileges for reasons that are not covered by these Terms of Service.
Because of this necessity, we retain the right to revoke any member's posting privileges at any time for any reason.
No bigoted hate speech :.
Do not post bigotry based on someone's race or ethnic origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion or lack thereof, disability, or other comparable personal characteristic. To be clear: This includes any post which states opposition to full equal rights for gays and lesbians;
it also includes any post asserting disloyalty by Jewish Americans, claiming nefarious influence by Jews/Zionists/Israel, advocating the destruction of the state of Israel, or arguing that Holocaust deniers are just misunderstood.
In determining what constitutes bigotry, please be aware that we cannot know what is in anyone's heart, and we will give members the benefit of the doubt, when and only when such doubt exists.
When I wrote CT, this is what I am referring to, although I enjoy a good yarn myself:
Don't go overboard with the crazy talk :
Democratic Underground is not intended to be a platform for kooks and crackpots peddling paranoid fantasies with little or no basis in fact. To accommodate our more imaginative members we tolerate some limited discussion of so-called "conspiracy theories" under the following circumstances: First, those discussions are not permitted in our heavily-trafficked Main forums; and second, those discussions cannot stray too far into Crazyland (eg: chemtrails, black helicopters, 9/11 death rays or holograms, the "New World Order," the Bilderbergers, the Illuminati, the Trilateral Commission, the Freemasons, alien abduction, Bigfoot, and the like).
In addition, please be aware that many conspiracy theories have roots in racism and anti-semitism, and Democratic Underground has zero tolerance for bigoted hate speech. In short, you take your chances.
Your post was likely hidden by DUers you call 'utra pro Israël posters' who do not really fit your description, but know the TOS agreed to join DU.
That hidden post is now in the hands of the Admins, who review hidden posts for TOS violations. They have record of your post here calling it a joke and warning your fellow DUers, along with all your other posts.
Violating the TOS is more serious than getting a post hidden. Just in case you hadn't reviewed the TOS, here is the link:
