TLANTIC CITY, N.J. -- A law enforcement official says he sent a video of Ray Rice punching his then-fiancée to an NFL executive five months ago, while league executives have insisted they didn't see the violent images until this week.
The official played The Associated Press a 12-second voicemail from an NFL office number on April 9 confirming the video arrived. A female voice expresses thanks and says: "You're right. It's terrible."
The law enforcement official, speaking to the AP on condition of anonymity because of the ongoing investigation, says he had no further communication with any NFL employee and can't confirm anyone watched the video. He said he was unauthorized to release the video but shared it unsolicited because he wanted the NFL to have it before deciding on Rice's punishment.
We are not aware of anyone in our office who possessed or saw the video before it was made public on Monday. We will look into it.

The NFL has repeatedly said it asked for but could not obtain the video of Rice hitting Janay Palmer -- who is now his wife -- at an Atlantic City casino in February.

(44,576 posts)I appreciate that the official wanted the record to be set straight, but shouldn't someone get fired for that?
As for the NFL executive who received the video, he has some 'splaining to do -- unless he's planning to pull a Rosemary Woods on one of his underlings.

(1,151 posts)Thats what he does. He lied for years about concussion science and to this day denies that football players are at risk for severe head trauma not to mention multiple life long disabilities.
When they begin to examine his history they will stumble upon the Ben Rothlesburger case. Ben had raped several girls over a period of years along with the apparent aid of some of his team mates. There were tapes involved , they disappeared.
Ben was suspended for 6 games, that was reduced to 2 games, for 'good behavior' and they all had a good laugh.......see a pattern here.
Goodel is Rooney's stooge, he is the leagues stooge. If they dig deep enough into this festering sore they will find crime. They will find that the league is run by greedy billionaires who do not like to follow rules and have little interest in honesty. Its a very exclusive club, and they do discriminate. They dont like the public seeing into their private chambers. They dont like to be second guessed or otherwise questioned. They are frieking out.
There will be executions.
