Iraqi Woman Activist Killed by Islamic State

Source: AP - ABC News

Militants with the Islamic State group publicly killed a rights lawyer in the Iraqi city of Mosul after finding her guilty of apostasy in a self-styled Islamic court, the United Nations said Thursday.

Samira Salih al-Nuaimi was seized from her home on Sept. 17 after allegedly posting messages on Facebook that were critical of the militants' destruction of religious sites in Mosul. Her Facebook page appears to have been removed since her death.

According to the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq, al-Nuaimi was tried in a so-called "Sharia court" for apostasy, after which she was tortured for five days before the militants sentenced her to public execution.

"By torturing and executing a female human rights' lawyer and activist, defending in particular the civil and human rights of her fellow citizens in Mosul, ISIL continues to attest to its infamous nature, combining hatred, nihilism and savagery, as well as its total disregard of human decency," Nickolay Mladenov, the U.N. envoy to Iraq, said in a statement, referring to the group by an acronym.

1. I still believe the Arab world needs to deal with these bastards. This crime is despicable, but so

what Boko Haram does and I haven't heard calls for war in Nigeria.

4. How many people belong to Boko Haram?

Do you have any idea. They do some really awful things, too. But I don't think they have the numbers that ISIS does.

2. guilty of apostasy

defined as "the abandonment or renunciation of a religious or political belief."

Christianity did the same thing hundreds of years ago. The maturation of Islam is going to be quite bloody and inhumane. It also appears that several of the Muslim countries are still so religious that they are in fact not opposed to this kind of barbarity.

Their graduation into modern, civilized culture appears to be a long way away, and it will probably have to come from within, not outside their culture.

5. Here's how I picture a sharia court

In the movie Dark Knight Rises, they have a kangaroo court where they bring in all the rich and powerful in Gotham, pronounce them guilty, and then march them off to their death. It's kind of like the old joke about military court martials: March in the guilty bastard.

7. And the kangaroo court in the Dark Knight Rises got their idea from many such 'courts' in the past

The McMartin Preschool Trial
HUAC
The People's Court in Nazi Germany
The Salem Witch Trials
And more

When fear and bigotry rule the day, the absolute worst of the worst find ways to weasel into some sort of power. The 'Shariah court' of ISIS is just another example of that.

11. These fucktards make Ted Bundy look like a choirboy with their lust for raping and torturing women

WE should put out the message that all captured ISIS fighters will be castrated in public.

No virgins would ever want them.

18. I find the priorities around here have gotten out of kilter

Perhaps people are more interested in being entertained than being informed. Donkey sex on LBN? Really? And DUers find that to be of more importance than the tragic loss of a human rights activist? Need I say more?
