Kimberly-Clark to cut up to 1,300 jobs

Source: AP

DALLAS — Kimberly-Clark plans to eliminate up to 1,300 jobs as part of restructuring efforts aimed at reducing costs and making its business more efficient.

The consumer products company behind brands such as Kleenex and Huggies has 58,000 workers worldwide, according to its website. That means the cuts would amount to about 2 percent of its workforce.

Kimberly-Clark Corp. said Tuesday that it anticipates restructuring costs between $130 million and $160 million, after taxes. The company foresees between $120 million and $140 million in savings by the end of 2017.

The restructuring is expected to be completed by the end of 2016.

A corporation faced with even the slightest economic bad news reacts by firing people. (This is one thing that needs to be fixed - a firing binge won't fix your problem when your problem is a sales force that doesn't sell and products the public no longer likes.) The same corporation won't rehire until its financials have gotten significantly better.

According to the article Kimberly-Clark is and has been profitable, it's just that the greedy bastards in charge want more more more, and fuck all the employees who will be laid off in the process.

population changes. Birth rates in the intermountain West has dropped, and with it diaper sales, which is one of the big money makers for the paper people. These guys just finished a huge addition to their facilities in northern Utah which is their highest per capita user of diapers. Sounds strange that a industry that makes paper pooper holders could be so effective.

a new golden age.

$ is paper, resources are real and communally owned according to every religious, spiritual and legal foundational understanding, less the laws later passed by oligarchs REALLOCATING THESE RESOURCES INTO THE HANDS OF MONIED MEN.

Natural law, or our right to happiness, life and liberty, dictate that those things necessary to survive are commonly owned to preserve stability and peace.

Yes, let robots and computers do our job so we can enjoy our life to the fullest and focus on the complete advancement of Science and Art.

Money is paper, it is less than our idea, and more that of those who control its flow and value. Let them play with their paper, let us have what is rightfully ours.

THE EARTH AND ALL THE GIFTS SHE PROVIDES US.

Several decades ago there were others that predicted that the arrival of the technological age would free people to devote more time to leisurely pursuits such as the arts, science and entertainment. Instead it seems like most people are working harder and have less time than ever to enjoy life. I was part of that group until I was discarded by the system because the oligarchs can find somebody younger and more malleable that doesn't ask questions to do their bidding. So yes, the technological age brought great blessings for awhile, but for myself it has also been a downfall.

The Kimberly-Clark HQ building was about a block away from where I used to work in Irving, Texas. Hopefully those people who need to remain employed will be fortunate to find a new job and for some it may be the end of their working careers. Unfortunately, there will probably be some that are in that phase in life where they are too old to transfer into a new career and those are the people that will need the most help.

Again, welcome to DU. Please remember to go out and vote!

I feel for the soon to be wageless as well.

There has been a top down force to keep technology hindered, both so those who have control today can maintain it tomorrow and out of fear of the growing power of both the individual and the mass e 3d printers, nano-tech that any child of the future will have the know how to program, etc).

It's known that their(monied men) control is waning as our understanding of the reality that surrounds us expands(the internet) our understanding of events and idea's that were, for all previous time, hidden from us and and/or shrouded in so much confusion that we couldn't possibly make head's or tails of the truth, or come together in a common agreement(massive movements and protests) that were out of their(monied men) control.

I hate to say it, and I know some will disagree, but the layoffs are, in the long run, the most bittersweet transition into the new golden age that we all so desperately NEED AND WANT.

Humankind, we are slow learners, and when we are comfortable and content are less likely to seek to improve our conditions. A well fed and sheltered slave is less likely to revolt and attain his natural rights than a slave who is starving and cold. The latter has everything to gain while the former is under the impression that they have everything to lose.

I have no doubt, should the monied men fear or fail to initiate a complete and total war against every commoner, our complete realization of our natural rights is shortly at hand. There has never been a time before in history where it was possible for every man to realize and take in hand the liberty they deserve(collective resources and dignity that naturally follows) and people are waking up to this fact.

When EVERY human wakes up to this fact, this truth that OUR RIGHTS, OUR STABILITY AND OUR DIGNITY IS BEING FORCEFULLY WITH-HELD HUMANKIND WILL RESPOND WITH A FORCE THAT CAN'T BE NULLIFIED SHORT OF GIVING INTO OUR DEMANDS, AND EITHER ABSORBING THE MONIED MEN INTO OUR RANKS WHERE THEY NATURALLY BELONG, OR OBLITERATING THEIR POWER THROUGH THE DISSOLUTION OF THEIR MYTHOLOGIES THAT IN THE PAST HAD KEPT US BOUND.
