The board of directors of American Airlines pilots union is meeting today and possibly tomorrow to determine its response to the companys revised contract offer and a proposal to enter binding arbitration.
Fort Worth-based American has given the Allied Pilots Association a Jan. 3 deadline to accept the companys latest contract offer in order for pay raises to go into effect for December, according to a hotline message sent by the union to members last week.
American and US Airways, which merged in December 2013, represent about 15,000 pilots combined.
American and the union had an Oct. 15 deadline to agree on a new joint collective bargaining agreement to put American and US Airways pilots under the same contract, but they extended the deadline several times. The airline has the option of halting negotiations and invoking an agreement to send the contract dispute to binding arbitration.
