Leadership of the union representing pilots at American Airlines Group Inc. late tonight voted to accept the companys latest contract proposal after meeting for two days, pending a vote by its member pilots.
The Allied Pilots Association faced a deadline today given by Fort Worth-based American to respond to the companys revised contract offer or enter binding arbitration. The union had to accept the companys latest contract offer in order for pay raises to go into effect for December.
The union represents about 15,000 pilots at American Airlines and US Airways after the two airlines merged in December 2013.
The APA board of directors voted to accept Americans latest joint collective bargaining agreement in principle, according to a hotline message the union sent to its members tonight. Pending the boards agreement with the companys final contractual language, it will electronically send a vote on the contract to member pilots, it said. The union had no time frame on when that will happen.
