Charlie Hebdo massacre: Suspects 'rob service station'

Source: BBC

The two main suspects in the Islamist attack on Charlie Hebdo magazine in Paris are said to have robbed a service station in the north of France.

They stole food and petrol, firing shots as they struck at the roadside stop near Villers-Cotterets in the Aisne region, French media report.
...
According to the manager of the service station that was robbed on the RN2 road in Aisne at about 10:30 (09:30 GMT), the attackers fit the description of the two men, and were heavily armed with Kalashnikovs and rocket-propelled grenade launchers.

They are said to have driven off in the direction of Paris in a Renault Clio car, apparently the same vehicle hijacked in Paris soon after the Charlie Hebdo attack.

I believe the Boston ones stopped at a gas station after and I think they hijacked someone's car.

Well at least I remembered the same. Another pair of brothers too included a older one who traveled and a really young one. Weird.

You would think they would have enough cash if they planned this out.

Nothing like robbing a place to draw attention again.

I'm not convinced they really expected to get away from the Paris shootings. They really could be making this "getaway" up as they go along.

"two senior U.S. counterterrorism officials". NBC backed out of it with "however, the officials later said the information that was the basis of that account could not be confirmed. "

If such people really did say that to NBC, it's pretty disappointing - spreading rumours to the American media rather than letting the French authorities handle when information is given out. Even if it had been true, what if their capture had given a heads-up to an accomplice that they had to run immediately? It might have jeopardised an operation.

The attackers then fled outside, where they clashed three times with the police. They then drove off in a black Citroën and headed north on the right bank of Paris. During their escape, prosecutors said, they crashed into another car and injured its female driver before robbing another motorist and driving off in that person’s vehicle. The police said that the black Citroën was found abandoned in the 19th Arrondissement.
