Mysterious Booms Rattle Homes, Scare Livestock in Oklahoma

Source: Associated Press

NORMAN, Okla. — Jan 9, 2015, 1:51 PM ET

A spate of mysterious booms has been shaking a city in central Oklahoma.

Oklahoma Geological Survey research seismologist Austin Holland says a series of thunderous booms rattled the Norman area at 11:19 a.m. Friday and that numerous more were reported in the same place around the same time Thursday.

Both Holland and National Weather Service meteorologist Matthew Day say they have no explanation for the booms that have been rattling houses and frightening livestock in the city on the southern edge of Oklahoma City.

Holland says there have been no earthquakes close enough to the area to be the cause of the booms. Day says a phenomenon known as cryoseisms (kry-oh-SY'-iz-uhmz) which occurs when water freezes quickly in soil or rock, then expands and cracks is also not to blame.

Perhaps the booms are from underground cannon battles with Christian Identity C.H.U.D.

It's like the last remake of Godzilla - the lizard wasn't created by nuclear testing, the nukes were attempts to kill IT. So, therefore, the fracking isn't being done to get oil they are trying to dampen the fuses on the CI and C.H.U.D. cannons. Either that or the "chemicals" are for C.H.U.D. extermination - Monsanto is probably involved somehow.

Unexplained “Boom” Regularly Echoing Over Guthrie, Oklahoma

No one knows what’s causing it, but everyone can hear it: a loud, bone rattling “boom” that shakes the sky, causing locals to phone their friends (and the police), asking “what the hell was that?”

According to Mayor Chuck Burtcher, the noises are nothing new either, admitting that he started getting asked about them three months ago, but even he doesn’t know what’s unnerving his town, musing that the booms could possibly be from oil exploration (though they’re too far from town to cause such a noise, reported KFOR NewsChannel 4)

People think they make noise, but the noise just comes from the rattling buildings and stuff. I've been it an earthquake outdoors far from a structure, and there was just a whisper of sound.

I don't think that geologic events other than volcanic eruptions can cause such booms. Non-volcanic geologic activity really can't emit percussive waves into the sky in such a way that it rattles buildings and makes a loud boom sound radiating everywhere and reflecting off the landscape.

They did say there was no measurable seismic activity, and you'd have to see something if there was sufficient geologic activity to cause these sorts of sounds. The source of the booms has to be from the air above.

My guess is sonic booms from military aircraft. These generally don't cause detectable seismic activity, but do scare everything on the surface.

OKC has the largest repair depot for military aircraft in a suburb called Midwest City, secret bombers and all that stuff. (they set off car alarms in the parking lot
when they take off).
