US Wants To Dominate The World, Says Russia's Lavrov
Source: Deutsche Welle
Russia's top diplomat has responded to President Obama's yearly address with accusations that the US will settle for nothing less than number one. A Kremlin spokesman has also accused the West of trying to unseat Putin.
Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov had disparaging words for US President Barack Obama's annual State of the Union address, saying it showcased America's "aggressive foreign policy" and quest to dominate world affairs.
"Americans have set a course for confrontation," Lavrov told reporters Wednesday.
"Obama's address yesterday shows that there's just one thing at the heart of (their) philosophy: 'We are number one' and the rest should acknowledge that," he added, referencing the President's comment that US sanctions against Russia over its role in the Ukraine crisis had left the Kremlin isolated and the Russian economy "in tatters."

Lavrov On Obama Speech: Efforts To Isolate Russia Will Fail
Attempts at isolating Russia will not work, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a press conference on the outcome of 2014.
We hear from our Western partners that Russia has to be isolated, Lavrov said. Specifically, Barack Obama has just repeated that. These attempts wont be effective. Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia will never resort to self-isolation.
The minister said Moscow is calling on Washington to resume cooperation that was thwarted last year. Relations between Moscow and Washington significantly deteriorated in 2014. We call for resuming effective cooperation at a bilateral and international level. But dialogue is only possible if based on equality and respect for each others interests, he said.
Cutting ties with NATO was not Russias choice, according to Lavrov.
NATO followed the US in its drive for confrontation. NATO made an absolutely politicized decision to halt civil and military cooperation. Almost all projects have been frozen, Lavrov said. Moscow will not allow a new Cold War, he added.
Commenting on US President Barack Obamas State of the Union Speech, Lavrov said it showed Washington wanted to dominate the world and required all the rest to acknowledge their superiority.

NATO is the US trojan horse in Europe. The US has an explicit interest in reigniting the cold war.
Hate the Russians all you want. In this they speak the obvious.

(15,438 posts)That's been the reason for all our wars, including WWII (Japanese oil).
Vietnam, too, was about oil for Exxon/Rockefeller (Standard Oil at the time).
Monk06
(7,675 posts)which includes especially the means by which it reaches the market. That means port, refinery and transportation infrastucture.
Ukraine is the principle pipeline hub for Russian gas destined for the European market.
So it is very much about oil.It is an explicit foreign policy goal of the US government that Russia never rise again as a military or economic competitor.
The US pursues this goal using it's domination of NATO. That's why expanding NATO into the Ukraine is of vital importance to US aims in Europe.

(15,438 posts)so in that case it's common sense not to attack Russia directly but rather use "the means" via NATO to choke them off.
But you can't tell me that the oligarchs in the U.S. aren't itching to control ALL the oil sources in the world that they can after turning a blind eye to blatant and barbaric Saudi human rights violations that goes against American principles, the illegal invasion of Iraq which happened only a small eleven years ago, and plans to attack Iran before those plans had been unmasked and the American people turned against the Iraq war (finally).
Oil billionaires don't like to spend even the tiniest bit of their profits, and that's exactly what they'll have to do if they only control the market. There's always that middleman - some country needy for their profits. No. It's far better and less riskier to gin up a war, get the American people behind it, have the American gov't (taxpayers) pay for it, and then own the oil wells instead of relying on fickle heads of State who may or may not be there in a few years.

Although some here choose not to see that as it conflicts with their "the US is the bad guy" worldview.

Russian media have been poking fun at the US secretary of state over a translation error on a gift she presented to her Russian counterpart.
Hillary Clinton gave Sergei Lavrov a mock "reset" button, symbolising US hopes to mend frayed ties with Moscow.
But he said the word the Americans chose, "peregruzka", meant "overloaded" or "overcharged", rather than "reset".
Daily newspaper Kommersant declared on its front page: "Sergei Lavrov and Hillary Clinton push the wrong button."

Didn't work out because Putin recognizes that a US that is friendly with you, is not actually good for holding power in the long run. And Putin wants to hold power forever.
