Christie 2013 campaign almost $800,000 in debt

By HERB JACKSON WASHINGTON CORRESPONDENT | The Record

Governor Christie's 2013 election campaign ended last year nearly $800,000 in debt because it has legal bills from firms that also have been advising the Republican State Committee on the George Washington Bridge lane closure scandal.

The debt means that as he considers a run for president, Christie also faces the need to raise money and pay off the debt of his previous campaign.

And he may have to go outside New Jersey for the money, because people who already gave the maximum to his last campaign — $3,800 per person — cannot contribute again to pay off the debt, according to the state Election Law Enforcement Commission.

Christie for Governor Inc. owes Patton Boggs of Newark $509,000 and Stroz Friedberg of Dallas $294,000, according to a year-end disclosure report filed Jan. 15. The two debts were recorded on New Year's Eve, the final day of the period covered by the disclosure, but may have been incurred earlier.

I wonder if his close buddy, Jerry Jones, can pay this off for him? Interesting that the NEW JERSEY Governor used a Dallas law firm during his campaign.

Dallas? Hmmmm I would suspect there are thousands of lawyers in New Jersey.

I am surprised he has not taken care of this debt. He seems to think what ever he does or does not do is OK. Well, if the K bros decide they want him, they will pay it off. Stooge.

5. And Patton Boggs may have an office in Newark, but it's not a Jersey firm

Squire Patton Boggs is an international legal practice with 44 offices in 21 countries. It was formed in 2014 by the merger of multinational law firm Squire Sanders with Washington, D.C. based Patton Boggs. It is one of the 25 largest law firms in the world by total headcount and one of the top 10 by number of countries occupied.

In addition to its large legal practice, Squire maintains one of the largest lobbying practices in Washington D.C. Patton Boggs was the largest U.S. lobbying firm by revenue in 2013, but lost this title to Akin Gump following the Squire Sanders merger in 2014. The lobbying arm, long managed by Thomas Hale Boggs, Jr., is currently managed by former United States Senators John Breaux and Trent Lott.

I worked on that for FEMA in New Orleans, which is still ongoing. One of my favorite moments there was being invited to a small meeting (a dozen or so) where someone was complaining how hard it is to spend $750 million legally and efficiently, and everyone in the room just nodded and laughed.

...spending taxpayers' money.

This is just ONE example of the money he's been throwing at failing casinos. The Revel was open barely a year before declaring bankruptcy (and running off with hundreds of millions from the NJ Treasury)
