Man takes responsibility for drone over White House

WASHINGTON (AP) A small drone flying low to the ground crashed onto the White House grounds before dawn Monday, triggering a major emergency response and raising fresh questions about security at the presidential mansion. A man later came forward to say he was responsible and didn't mean to fly it over the complex.

The man contacted the Secret Service after reports of the crash spread in the media, a U.S. official said. The man told the agency that he had been flying the drone recreationally. The man is a Washington resident and is cooperating with investigators.

Secret Service agents are now interviewing other people to corroborate the man's story, and they don't currently have any reason to doubt the man's story, the official said.

The official wasn't authorized to discuss the ongoing investigation publicly and spoke only on condition of anonymity

No malicious intent.

This time! What about next time? If the GOPricks had their druthers, nuclear weapons would be available for private sale to individuals, which would add a whole other meaning to NRA.

6. He is about to get a massive fine. No RC aircraft of any type are legal within 30 miles of DC

Hobbyists were furious when they closed the airspace back in 2008 or 2009, but the government wouldn't budge. There were actually RC clubs 15-20 miles from DC who had to sell their private fields because they could no longer fly there.

It doesn't matter whether this guy flew the drone there on purpose or as an accident. You can't fly them ANYWHERE in DC.

8. Agreed.

It's unfortunate that the OP makes an attempt to create a link to RC Hobbyists/Photographers with NRA supporters.

LBN should be: Meat. Potatoes. Link.

/thread.
