Obama Includes Republicans In Big Delegation To Meet New Saudi King

Source: REUTERS

NEW DELHI Tue Jan 27, 2015 10:00am IST

Jan 27 (Reuters) - President Barack Obama will fly a 30-member delegation including top officials and Republican foreign policy veterans to Riyadh on Tuesday to meet new Saudi Arabian King Salman as the crisis in neighboring Yemen continues to boil.

Joining Obama in paying respects following the death of King Abdullah will be Republican statesmen James Baker, secretary of state in the George H.W. Bush administration, and Brent Scowcroft, national security adviser to presidents Ford and H.W. Bush, the White House said.

Condoleezza Rice, secretary of state for President George W. Bush, Stephen Hadley, national security adviser in that administration, and Republican Senator John McCain, who is often critical of Obama's foreign policy, also will join.

Obama's Secretary of State John Kerry and CIA Director John Brennan will be part of the delegation, as will top Obama advisers Susan Rice and Lisa Monaco. (Reporting by Roberta Rampton; Editing by Douglas Busvine)

Just leave them there, where they can be close to the source of much of their money and inspiration.

also hate'. I'm surprised they did not bring one of Fred Phelps kids along to help them sell the message 'Our God Hates Them Too'.

Always good to know where that end of this Party stands.

That President Obama did not try to get along with these jackasses

I like that he has and will continue to try to stop this vicious cycle of hating on who is in the oval office no matter the party.

But it looks like the same old crowd here on DU don't think the president should be civil to the "oner side". Of course the also don't think the president has accomplished anything since taking office, that both parties are the same, that we need to "purge the party" of anyone who does not think like they do, and that we need some kind of "purity" test for candidates and if they don't it that test, well why vote for them. This is just a few of the things they continue to push on DU day after day. Nothing, and I means nothing the president does will ever please some of these posters.

since they will be dealing with SA after Obama's gone. Foreign policy needs continuity regardless of the party that has the WH. I am disgusted at bringing GOP "elders" who no longer hold office OR relevance, and in particular at the elevation of Condi Rice and Stephen Hadley as some sort of credible dignitaries. These people have been tragically, fatally, criminally WRONG, and should not be invited to represent the US.
