Members of the Nebraska State Board of Education on Wednesday will consider a draft resolution calling for the resignation of fellow member Pat McPherson over bigoted postings on his blog.

The resolution says that the board has been deluged by calls and emails and that “this storm of attention and outrage, which appears likely to continue, will hinder the efforts of the State Board of Education and the Commissioner of Education to move forward to address pressing educational issues on behalf of Nebraska students.”

It states that the board “deplores racism in all forms and expects civility be shown to all people including the President of the United States.”

It also notes that Gov. Pete Ricketts; U.S. Sens. Deb Fischer and Ben Sasse; other state and local organizations; and news media have called publicly for McPherson to resign.
