War by Media and the Triumph of Propaganda

War by Media and the Triumph of Propaganda

Monday, 15 December 2014 10:15
By John Pilger, Truthout | Op-Ed

The times we live in are so dangerous and so distorted in public perception that propaganda is no longer, as Edward Bernays called it, an "invisible government." It is the government.

Why has so much journalism succumbed to propaganda? Why are censorship and distortion standard practices? Why is the BBC so often a mouthpiece of rapacious power? Why do The New York Times and The Washington Post deceive their readers?

Why are young journalists not taught to understand media agendas and to challenge the high claims and low purpose of fake objectivity? And why are they not taught that the essence of so much of what's called the mainstream media is not information, but power?

These are urgent questions. The world is facing the prospect of major war, perhaps nuclear war - with the United States clearly determined to isolate and provoke Russia and eventually China. This truth is being turned upside down and inside out by journalists, including those who promoted the lies that led to the bloodbath in Iraq in 2003.

The times we live in are so dangerous and so distorted in public perception that propaganda is no longer, as Edward Bernays called it, an "invisible government." It is the government. It rules directly without fear of contradiction, and its principal aim is the conquest of us: our sense of the world, our ability to separate truth from lies. ............(more)

1. This is the wording faux journalists use to trick people, "stumble into"...

"If you wonder," wrote Robert Parry, "how the world could stumble into world war three - much as it did into world war one a century ago - "

The world did not dumbfoundedly "stumble into" a world war, the world war was intentionally pre-created by the mic, just like the Iraq war was pre-created. Just like every one of their other stupid bloody wars was pre-created.

He never dropped a bomb.

Of course the press didn't like him.

as disturbing as it is. Those of us who have come to the same conclusion (after our own long experience observing the deterioration of Journalism) appreciate his continuing efforts to educate and inform.

I found a download at "You Tube" of his Address to the Logan Symposium.

Could you post it in V&MM? Unfortunately, the "YT"synopsis isn't good in explaining what it's about. A snip introduction & link to the article would be helpful for anyone wanting to view it. More people here need to see it.

Here's the Link.

6. Is it much different?

I read the print version but didn't have time to watch but a few minutes of the video.

I'll look at it later. I hope the impact wasn't lost in the You Tube version. There's another version on YT but it was cut off in the beginning.

7. The differences are minor, seemed to be ad-libbed for the most part by Mr. Pilger giving his speech

Some events and names are added, where as some events and names are removed.

The crux of the article/speech is the same message, it is delivered a little differently.
