English soccer club owner, accused of anti-Semitism, banned for six weeks

Dave Whelan said in an interview that 'Jewish people chase money more than anybody else'

The owner of English soccer club Wigan Athletic was banned from all soccer-related activities for six weeks on Wednesday over making offensive comments about Jews.

Dave Whelan was accused in November of anti-Semitism after telling The Guardian that "Jewish people chase money more than anybody else."

The English Football Association charged Whelan with racially aggravated misconduct and fined him 50,000 pounds ($78,000). He was warned about his future conduct and ordered to undertake a mandatory education course.

“It is clear that he himself [Whelan] is very upset by the words he used and he moved very quickly to apologize publicly, plead guilty and begin to make amends,” the FA commission report said.

that's offensive at all"

Ever notice how easy some of these people make it to identify their stupid prejudices? Even better is they appear to be totally unaware of what they're saying or the signals it sends to most of us. In the long run I think that might be a good thing
