Shadow of the Holocaust still hangs over Europe

THERE is a feeling of “anxiety” among Jewish communities in the UK following the shootings in Paris in which people were killed in a kosher supermarket and a Jewish security charity said it has received an “unusually high” number of calls.


As people mark Holocaust Memorial Day tomorrow – also the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau where more than a million prisoners were killed – less than a month will have passed since the terrorist attack in the Jewish supermarket killed four people.

Mark Gardner, a spokesman at Community Security Trust, said the calls they are receiving from Jewish people fearing a Paris-style terrorist attack in the UK is “unusually high”.

Last week he said the number of calls they had received had been “unprecedented”, and it has only “diminished slightly” since. He said people’s fear lies in an understanding of the “reality of terrorism”.

Four hostages were killed by Amedy Coulibaly at a Jewish supermarket in attacks timed to follow the massacre of 12 people by brothers Said and Cherif Kouachi at the offices of satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo.

I think one of the reasons many in Europe today fear for the future - specially when it come to anti-semetism against people of jewish decent - is becouse some of the same systems are at play - unsecurity - economical colaps - or at least economical problems of gigantic propotions - and sadly - the jews of Europe is the traditional fallguy when things are going bad.. And sadly - history, even the close history of the last 100 years are somethign young pepole do not have interest in now - sometimes I suspect my generation of children was one of the last ones who was interested in history - maybe becouse we had familiy members who had experience when it come to what happened in the war - the youngs today - do not have that "intimate" experience where your grand-fathers and mothers - older uncles, and maybe even your father had some experience with the war and what it really was about...

What happened in camps like Auscwitz-Birkenau - was horrible, grusome and should never be repeated again if pepole just had remembered what happened there - but just 70 years later - many still claim that what happened in the camps is just the product of pepole who imagined it all - it never happened - and it was mostly becouse of the war itself - the bombing of traintracks and its like - that pepole was dying in the camps - not becouse nazis all over Europe had some bad ideals about killing jews, romas - and millions of others who was "Un-wanted" in the new world the nazis was trying to make posible..

I understand why pepole is afraid of beeing attaced by pepole who se pepole of jewish belife as lesser - pepole who should have been killed off when Hitler had the shance to do it as some have had the oppinion about - it is a horrible view of the world - and of pepole whoes only "crime" is becouse of their ancestory - or becouse of their faith.... It was horrible back when the nazis was doing it - it is still horrible today..

We should all be afraid of anti-semetism - not just pepole of jewish faith - as anti-semetism can spread to a regular "feast" where everyone who are not up to the standard - wil be killed off one by one - and the exuses would be the same as it was back then...
