... downtown, just in front of the Arch on East Broad Street, rests a monument recognizing those from Athens who served in the Confederacy ... Also near the Arch, a sundial marks the spot where Robert Toombs, who served as Secretary of State for the Confederacy, delivered a speech following his expulsion from UGA ... Until last March, two fraternities on campus, Sigma Alpha Epsilon and Kappa Alpha Order .. held KAs Old South Week and SAEs Magnolia Ball where students dressed in Antebellum hoop skirts. Confederate soldier uniforms were also worn by the fraternity men, but have been banned since 2010 ... Ben Walker .. said he usually ignores Confederate symbols such as the Confederate flag. He thinks it is ignorant and insensitive to display them ...
