Feeling G.O.P. Peril, Muslims Try to Get Out Vote
WASHINGTON American Muslims are watching in growing horror as Donald J. Trump and Senator Ted Cruz battle for the Republican presidential nomination, outdoing each other with provocative proposals that have included Muslim registries, immigration bans and fleets of police patrolling their neighborhoods.
With round tables, summit meetings and news releases falling on deaf ears, national advocacy groups are planning to fend off policies they consider hostile to Muslims with a more proactive strategy: driving up the Muslim vote.
Organizations like the Council on American-Islamic Relations, known as CAIR, the Islamic Circle of North America and the U.S. Council of Muslim Organizations are encouraging mosques to turn themselves into voter registration centers before the November election so that Muslims can make their voices heard at the polls. Registration drives are expected to ramp up significantly in June, during Ramadan, when attendance at Islamic centers peaks.
The fear and apprehension in the American Muslim community has never been at this level, said Ibrahim Hooper, a spokesman for CAIR. The anti-Islamic tidal wave is spurring civic participation.
<...>
Although Muslims make up only about 1 percent of the population in the United States, civil rights groups have set a goal of registering a million new voters. Efforts will be focused on swing states such as Ohio and Florida that have large Muslim populations, potentially giving the small but united voting bloc the power to tilt close elections.
The best answer to this anti-Muslim rhetoric is engagement in the political process, said Naeem Baig, the president of the Islamic Circle of North America. It is a matter of survival for the American Muslim community.

(4,176 posts)and I am pointing out that many here and out there who support Bernie believe there is no difference between Hillary and the GOP
etc
While there is in fact a huge difference.
Under the idiot Drumpf or Cruz, I should say

If the GOP takes over, people die.

(8,445 posts)I stand corrected. I'll promptly stop being selfish, hogging my vote for myself.
Anyway, Hillary is a warmonger and hates entitlements like welfare and expansion of medicare. People died under the first installment of the Clintons, and got shoved into prisons in world-record numbers. They are strictly Reagan-ite in how they operate, only I think Reagan lied far less.

(8,445 posts)With all the anti-democratic things the DNC has done this cycle, including letting Clinton take Arizona where Bernie was strong -- to hell with gigantic lines and people having to leave the polls -- I suppose all the gaslighting over not being lockstep Hillary supporters will be the runny icing on the shitcake.
You know what? If Hillary gets the nomination then she may be in for worse media treatment than either Bernie or Al Gore got. And it would actually be fitting because she and Bill created this deregulated, rabid media landscape.

Or the wrong last name or worship the wrong religion.

(8,445 posts)It was recently revealed that a top Nixon aide admitted this.
And the Clintons intensified it greatly, while borrowing some of the conservatives worst rhetoric AND pulling out the economic safety net, making people more desperate to get money any way they could.
Millions of Americans were attacked and locked away and many killed, and the police forces militarized because of what they did.
They represent a gang of war profiteers, the kind who like to bring their war toys home to play with in "domestic urban" settings. The kind who turn police thuggery and prisons into a profitable growth business. The kind who, like bankers, avoid prosecution of any kind from Democrats.
And to top it off.... when the most popular Republican is very weak in the polls, I am **STILL** being told that I absolutely MUST support the Dem party establishment or else the sky will fall down!
You believe what Clinton says??! What about that voter rights rhetoric from a couple months ago.... where is she now? Where is DWS? Oops, must have never happened because Hillary benefited from that latest bout of disenfranchisement.

(8,445 posts)and then have Israeli personnel train our own police to deal with the immigrants and refugees the way they have dealt with blacks.
Certainly there's a difference... a couple degrees anyway.
