Young Texans Make Up Most Diverse Generation

... Almost 68 percent of Texans aged 19 and younger are non-white. That's a reversal of the racial breakdown among Texans 65 and older, almost two-thirds of whom are white while only about 36 percent are people of color.
Both of those breakdowns stand in contrast to the states overall share of Texans 57 percent that are non-white.
The new figures, particularly the diversity among young Texans, fuel predictions that Texas may be the next state where Hispanics become a plurality, comprising the largest racial or ethnic group though not a majority. If that happens, Texas would join New Mexico and California.

I'm a die-hard Washingtonian now. But I'd love to see Texas live up to our progressive ideals...

(57,079 posts)I was in the Temple VA two weeks ago and the diversity and causal interactions among the most diverse population I've ever seen really helped to lift my spirits. There is hope for a post racist US and it seems to be coming around in places one might not expect it.
