No Republican convention in a half century has been as tormented as the one concluding in Cleveland tonight. All but one former Republican president or presidential candidate are absent, along with the vast majority of the party’s senators, House members, even the governor of the host state, as a man they see as unqualified, intemperate and bigoted has been nominated. Party members say the angry party led by Donald Trump bears no resemblance to the party of Ronald Reagan. Room for Debate asked three former Reagan officials: What is the Republican Party?
