Leaked Tapes Show Michel Temers Henchmen Led Dilma Rousseff Coup in Brazil
01:04 26.05.2016(updated 08:07 26.05.2016)
. . .
On Monday, Brazilian newspaper Folha de Sao Paulo revealed audio recordings of a conversation between the countrys planning minister, Romero Juca, and Sergio Machado, former CEO of state-owned oil company Petrobras subsidiary Transperto, calling to oust Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff, as part of a bid to derail an ongoing corruption investigation under which the two are involved.
The high-ranking Juca serves as the president of the Brazilian Democratic Movement Party (PMDB), the same political party as interim leader Michel Temer and other leading impeachment figures, including deposed lower house leader Eduardo Cunha and senate leader Renan Calheiros.
Juca immediately stepped down from his government post a few hours after the recordings were released, but the ever-unraveling threads of the coup plot threaten to completely dismantle the Temer government.
The impeachment proceedings against Rousseff are not a matter of corruption, but rather for borrowing from the federal savings bank to preserve social welfare programs facing short-term budgetary shortfalls caused by an international recession. The effort to impeach was initially led by Eduardo Cunha, who then served as the leader of Brazils lower legislative chamber.

(160,501 posts)treat it as if everything is A-OK, and that the real people of Brazil approve.
Glad to know you've been watching this crime, too.

(86,496 posts)I'm such a political animal that I can't look away. Been watching the happenings in Central and South America - at arm's length - for decades, and after reading that book by Naomi Klein, it became all the more prescient.

Greenwald has a bit on him too:

A taste of Shock Doctrine anyone?
GoDawgs
(267 posts)By that, I mean Brazil is such a large & critical country that destabilizing it is too big of a risk, even for the Shock doctrine perpetrators.
Ms Klein's theory is interesting & mostly correct on several points from the standpoint of historical analysis, andd effective on smaller countries, or countries that were more detached from world economy as in the days before globalization.
But Brazil, especially now, due to its size & location, and its global integration into the resource chains and capital market flows, is like a keystone in an arch. It's stability underpins all of the economies of S America directly, and the resource chains all around the globe.
If the shock doctrine folks were to try that tactic now, in Brazil as it currently exists, they are crazy. The risk is way too high of crashing the whole system.
One of the attractive (to them) tenets of the shock doctrinr was that if the operation went wrong, crap hit the fan and whole thing went to hell, they could quickly bug out and wash their hands of the consequences. And it would just be another failed piss ant backwater.
Try it in the modern Brazil? I think it could theoretically crash the whole system.
Apologies for the long post.

(86,496 posts)is quite acceptable given that you had something to say that is an important consideration to ponder.
However, I suspect that, much like what we see with a particular presidential candidate, they just can't help themselves at this point, they want continental control and are so emboldened by their historic successes that they are not going to go back to small fish, so to speak. With the currently proposed globalizing trade agreements, they can taste what they want so clearly that they are quite willing to just flip the game board with all the crucial positions flying into the air because they are sure that they will soon "have it all" regardless so what damage they do to even large nations, keystone nations if you will, that they will do this just to pet their collective ego. You can see it happening here, in the good ol' US of A, if you look at it from a small step back.
And on top of that, how dare women gain such powerful positions with genuine compassion toward the masses... look at the constant attacks on HRC given her intellect and savvy, and Angela Merkel and other women in power. The only way this war and profit from it and all the ills of capitalism and other male dominated regimes and processes will end is if women take power and change the direction humankind is headed. Men of power need a time out because of the mess that has been created from the power they wield, period. MHO, of course.

(160,501 posts)From the second link, facts which should be known everywhere, but won't, unless people get the news out personally, as you have:
As someone who has lived in Brazil for 11 years, its been inspiring and invigorating to watch a country of 200 million people throw off the shackles of a 21-year-old right-wing (U.S./U.K. supported) military dictatorship and mature into a young, vibrant democracy and then thrive under it. To see how quickly and easily that can be reversed abolished in all but name only is both sad and frightening to watch. Its also an important lesson for those, in countries all over the world, who blithely assume that things will continue as is or that theyre guaranteed stability and ongoing progress.
It would be so good if everyone could see this, among those who have consciences. We know that a lot of fascists already know the facts, but they will not be sharing, of course. It's their intention to keep real information from reaching the eyes of decent people.
Thank you, very much.
On edit:
No one should miss the first link, either. This is totally new information to some of us, and it should have been known as soon as Wikilinks published it, clearly. It's perverse for Temer to have been in this position. He's a traitor to Brazil.
GoDawgs
(267 posts)Temer and his ilk are not really members of any nation, they consider themselves above nationality, they just want the $$$. See also my above comment regarding use of shock doctrine type ops to 2na.
On an off topic point, I've read some of the news items you posted in the various boards, some are really interesting articles. Keep posting!
