5. Betsy DeVos is a Christian reconstructionist who wants to destroy

secular public education. Quality education has a very different meaning for religious zealots, who tend to see education itself as potentially dangerous. No surprise that the charter schools DeVos's has promoted in Michigan have generally had little to no oversight and perform poorly. I've read good charter school corporations are avoiding Michigan because of the mess she helped create there.

Sharing her goals in general are the giant anti-government/regulation/taxation Koch alliance, and others of their ilk, and the solidifying anti-liberal/anti-secular right wing forces who played a huge part in electing Trump. If they can get control of SCOTUS, they will move to make compulsory education unconstitutional. From there they can attack the compulsory taxation that funds public schools.

He's a cynic, to all signs almost certainly amoral and likely without conscience, who has very little personal ideology beyond making himself as powerful as possible. He's also an extremely smart guy, not at all like the many right-wing ideological idiots in Congress, and cultivating the massive potential for hypocrisy in them and all those who vote for them is one of his most powerful tools.
