“What does the Trump administration's freeze on Environmental Protection Agency grants and contracts mean?”

And late Wednesday morning the executive director of the Columbia Corridor Association got good news: The EPA-funded program the association oversees, which helps get older, heavily polluting diesel vehicles off Portland-area roads, was safe.

“They confirmed that the order only applies to new grants,” Collier said. “Existing grants are not affected, which means we’re fine.”

But a lot of other groups might not be so lucky.

"CRITFC and its member tribes receive grants from the EPA that support water quality programs and are an integral part of our basin-wide salmon recovery efforts,” Sara Thompson, the commission’s public information officer, said in an emailed statement. “At this time, we are unsure of state of those grants and that funding. We have not had any official communications with EPA over the freeze and what it means to tribal grant programs."
