Here's an interesting side story about golf. In 1994, at the Masters golf tournament, one of CBS's announcers was Gary McCord. During the broadcast, he commented on the "speed" of the putting greens, meaning that the ball would roll fast and for long distances while putting. For golfers, this makes it very difficult to hit the ball into the hole. Mr. McCord commented that the greens were "smoothed with bikini wax." The officials of Augusta National, the club that sponsors the Masters, were incensed by what they perceived as an off-color comment and Mr. McCord has never been allowed to broadcast the event since then.
