Trump embodies every one of the Seven Deadly Sins
Trumps ego drives him. Donald Trump has been consistently inconsistent when it comes to policy ideas, but his commitment to Donald Trump is absolute.
Vainglory derailed his agenda with distractions and defeats. He made the Boy Scouts speech about himself, rather than about serving others. He couldnt handle the slight from Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowskis vote against the GOP health bill, so he threatened all of Alaska thereby cementing her fateful opposition. And he held a rally in Ohio not to build support for a vote he already had or to make the case for a policy agenda but because he can only recharge with the adoration of a cheering crowd. Then, he left the chanting multitudes and tweeted about crowd size the 252nd time he has done so. (For comparison, hes tweeted 36 times about Afghanistan). Governing is about others, but Trump hasnt been able to bury his pride.

(10,252 posts)I meditate a lot about virtue. Aristotle wrote about the classical Greek virtues of prudence (wisdom), moderation, courage, and justice. In Tibetan Buddhism, we talk about wisdom and merit. Wisdom is seeing how things actually exist, and not how our ego tells us things exist. It also seeing that everything arises from causes and conditions, is impermanent, and is connected to everything else. Merit is the altruistic thought that leads to actions benefitting others, and then giving the merit away to others.
Hardly virtues that Trump spoke about to the Boy Scouts, or anyone else for that matter. Vicious, vulgar speech and deeds come from a vicious and vulgar mind. Virtuous speech and deeds come from a virtuous mind. Need I say more?

(9,688 posts)How his evangelical supporters can square this with their consciences is beyond me. The human capacity for hypocrisy seems to have no bounds.
