Donna Ferrato: What is wrong with white women?

From Maclean's http://www.macleans.ca/politics/washington/donna-ferrato-what-is-wrong-with-white-women/
Read it all the way through - her conclusions seem pretty much on point.

It’s been… (pause) quite an eventful year. The blinders have come off, with the gloves. There’s no attempt to be kind anymore, to be considerate, to give people room to think and to make smart decisions. I feel we’ve been pushed to the brink, to be as vicious and angry and suspicious as possible.

The march was a wonderful thing. I enjoyed it very much. It was a moment in the year when I felt we could breathe and walk together and support each other and be happy to see each other side by side. Men, women, children, white women, black women, Hispanic women, Chinese women, Asian, Arabic, everybody. We were all together.

But through this last year—as it became really apparent that so many white women were against the rights of women, and that so many women who supported Trump and really made this nightmare come true are steadfast in their support of him—I started to get really angry with women. Really, really angry with these women.

...they may be afraid and unaware. A religious-type brainwashing? They want men and God to "take care" of them... they would be better off if they were black, brown or gay - it might give them some added perspective and strength... most women (and men) are okay, though, and what a treat to see so many of my friends march!

it is economics. Married women, particularly white conservative women, tend to be aware of their second rate economic status and vote in a way which protects and reinforces their husbands economic interest, even over greater social good.

Hillary commented on this as one of the reasons why being a woman did not automatically translate to her getting women's votes when her opponent is a rapist and misogynist.

They see problems in their lives, and almost invariably cast about for blame and blame someone who has tried to help them. It's really striking. One woman was someone Trump would have stepped on-- older, not rich, with a disabled child on SSI. She voted for Trump because she said the public school wasn't doing enough to "fix" her child. (Really. She thought their job was to "fix" him.) I pointed out that Trump doesn't even WANT public schools particularly, and that if he had his way, her son probably wouldn't go to school at all.
She had no answer. She didn't care about reality-- that the boy's teachers cared about him and were trying to help, that the social worker was also helping her (she hated the social worker too), that Social Security was helping them too (she thought SSI should pay much more to her son, but not pay anything for the "losers" who weren't her son). She saw in Trump= the most unhelpful person on the planet-- not someone who would help, really, but someone who also resented good people trying to help.

So strange. But that's what I notice a lot with women Trump voters. Some are just Republican-- they always vote GOP. But others don't care at all about "small government" or anything conservative. They have this weird need to hate those who are trying to help them, and Trump has a similar contempt for anyone caring and dedicated to service.

It's the culture thing.

A LOT of 35 to 55 year old, average types.

The common denominator seems to be religion.

Not necessarily huge bible thumpers, but they tend to reference god or religious phrases.
