Trump's Big Speech: More Pep Rally Than Bipartisan Breakthrough

President Trump's first State of the Union address was billed as a bid for unity, a call for all to rise above party and faction in pursuit of national ideas and ideals.

It had no pep. Not a bit. Trump gave a pretty awkward and lethargic reading of a teleprompter. Maybe Republicans applaud anything but the rest of us thought it was a snoozefest. And beneath it all was the same selfish and hateful ideology. Not really something that makes anyone's heart beat faster or feel more optimistic. Same old same old.
