White House: US Can't Afford Veterans Healthcare Without Cuts

White House: US Can't Afford Veterans Healthcare Without Cuts

Last year, the Trump administration insisted that its regressive tax cuts were so important, it was worth adding $1.5 trillion to the national debt to ensure their passage. Now, the White House is warning Congress that the United States cannot afford to add $1.6 billion to the deficit to expand health-care options for veterans. In a letter Monday, the Trump administration demanded that lawmakers fund a popular veterans’ health-care program — which allows former troops to spend public funds on private doctors and hospitals — with cuts to other parts of the budget. Democrats, and some top Senate Republicans, prefer to raise the current caps on discretionary spending instead. The case for the latter.....

As I read this I had a sense that the whole shell game for our Veterans and healthcare is to privatize it, and drown the VA in a bathtub. The VA isn't perfect, but, it works. For the vast majority of Veterans. They are govt tax dollars that need to be spent on the Govt institution that is the Veterans Admin. Make it better. Stop destroying stuff repubs.

Which will necessitate cuts to social security and Medicare.

And still Trump loyalists will support him

Billionaire Donors -- gift them with deficit causing tax cuts! They pay too much!

Veterans - Sorry we can't increase the deficit to give you basic healthcare. We'll have to cut it back some more.

They are all despicable.

I was told those tax would not cost the budget anything. In fact growth would more than cover the cuts Money was going to rain down from heaven. Ayn Rand promised it.

Let’s start by cutting all Trump’s golf trips. I’m sure there’s a Putt-Putt within driving distance of the White House.

I went to a ceremony just today honoring my great uncle's WWI service and there were many elderly veterans there, Korea, Vietnam, etc. The government officials there went on about pride of the generations of service in his family - son went to Korea and a granddaughter to West Point - but what's the point if they're abandoned by the country they served?
