Steven Tyler sends cease-and-desist letter to Donald Trump for playing Aerosmith at rally
Tyler sent Trump a cease-and-desist letter through attorney Dina LaPolt, noting that because Trump had already received letters not once, but two times from Tyler in 2015 regarding the use of Aerosmith songs, the playing of Livin on the Edge Tuesday night was clearly willful, subjecting Mr. Trump to the maximum penalty under the law.
As we have made clear numerous times, Mr. Trump is creating the false impression that our client has given his consent for the use of his music, and even that he endorses the presidency of Mr. Trump, the letter reads. By using Livin On The Edge without our clients permission, Mr. Trump is falsely implying [emphasis theirs] that our client, once again, endorses his campaign and/or his presidency, as evidenced by actual confusion seen from the reactions of our clients fans all over social media.

(33,643 posts)And all right-wingers music, Nugent, Skid Jock, Keith, etc's ... sucks.
But he doesn't so it's probably just cause he thinks that song fits his 'image' and doesn't GAF about violating artists rights.

(100,060 posts)The only artists left who support Trump are crappy musicians. I'm sure they could get Kid Rock's permission.

And then sit back and watch what turns up in discovery.

(182,739 posts)I read an article about the WV rally in which it mentioned "Sympathy" being played more than once. Mick and Keith no longer own the rights to that song if memory serves. They gave up the rights to their catalog pre-1973 (I think) to get out of the contract with their former manager - the same guy Mick steered Paul to that caused the break up of the Beatles.

(14,010 posts)"Sympathy for the Devil?" That's hilarious.

(182,739 posts)From early on. Is he poking at them? Making fun of them? I don't know.
He also used REM's "Its the End of World as we Know it" and the boys from Athens immediately filed a cease and desist letter. He's mentioned in the song but the fact that he's one of the many causes of said end of the world didn't seem to matter - it's all ME ME ME to him.

(14,010 posts)he might never have got past the "man of wealth and taste" bit. And the REM... that's bizarre, too, though surely many of his cultists would wish an end of the world as we know it.
I occasionally think back to Reagan's attempted appropriation of "New Jersey's own Bruce Springsteen", and "Born in the USA", and wonder if republicans are missing the irony gene.

(182,739 posts)Reagan or Bush I used "Little Pink Houses" by Mellencamp. Obviously, like "Born in the USA" no one listened to or understood what either song was about. Of all artists to use Bruce and Mellencamp are the WORST ones a Republican could latch on to.
Palin used "Barricuda" and the Wilson sisters said no no no
McCain for some unknowable reason used "Running on Empty" by Jackson Browne. Again, that artist? Not a fan but he was central to the very successful "No Nukes" efforts. Browne sued and stayed with for several years after the 2008 election.
Bob Dole used a version of "Soul Man" ("Dole Man" and someone associated with either Sam & Dave or Isaac Hayes said STOP IT.

And a government for hire and a combat site
Left her, wasn't coming in a hurry
With the Furies breathing down your neck
Team by team, reporters baffled, trumped, tethered, cropped
Look at that low plane, fine, then
"Low plane" - 9/11? There are other bizarrely prophetic bits in there too.
More creepy stuff:
Six o'clock, T.V. hour, don't get caught in foreign tower
Slash and burn, return, listen to yourself churn
Lock him in uniform, book burning, bloodletting
