Trump's FEMA Chief just publicly shamed the victims of Hurricane Michael.
'After weeks of victim shaming women during the confirmation hearings for Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, the Trump administration has moved onto shaming hurricane victims in the wake of Hurricane Michaels tremendous devastation on Floridas Gulf coast.
Brock Long, the administrator for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), laid the blame for the extensive destruction caused by the natural disaster at the feet of unprepared Floridians who did not follow evacuation orders while speaking at a press conference yesterday.
Accusing local residents of not having learned the lesson of how dangerous hurricanes and their accompanying storm surges can be, Brock ignored the fact that the storm transformed from a mere tropical depression to a Category 4 hurricane unusually quickly, giving people in the area little time to prepare for the fast-moving weather event.
Its frustrating to us because we repeat this same cycle over and over again, Long said at the press briefing. If you want to live in these areas, youve got to do it in a more resilient fashion.
While Long stressed emergency preparedness and insurance as the first line of defense against these types of storms, the Trump administration continues to deny the role of humans in contributing to climate change that is increasing the ferocity of major storms and raising global temperatures, causing polar ice to melt and sea levels to rise, increasing the threat to coastal communities.'>>>

(6,831 posts)That repeatedly berates, criticizes and demeans people who have just faced the worst disaster of the entire lives. Think of every natural disaster/school shooting/wildfire, etc., that has happened under this administration and recall their response.
They have elevated victim-shaming to an art form.

(16,072 posts)This is the first administration that makes it a habit to blame the victims...but you know what...some of those victims are going to vote for those that have backed this administration 100%!!!
No matter what they do or say, no matter how much they refuse to help...many of the people who live in the areas that got devastated by Florence and now Michael...are going to vote Republican, because no matter how hard you try...you just can't fix stupid!!!!

(22,100 posts)take them. Difficult to pull up stakes and move rapidly, especially since storms and their path differ so much from day to day.

(17,000 posts)I did evacuate, on Tuesday afternoon, when it was just barely a Cat 3. Lots and lots of people were still at work. Schools were going to be closed Tuesday and Wednesday. It strengthened very quickly and was moving very fast. Even if everyone evacuates we are still going to come home and start rebuilding. You can't wait for the power to come on to pull the trees off your roof. Typical Trump appointee.

Just another sociopathic idiot.
Thanks for the post, elleng.
