'I'm gonna lose everything'

PLATTE, S.D. — Amber Dykshorn stood at her kitchen window and watched the storm come in.

It was a very dark Saturday night in the middle of the summer in the middle of a year that is on track to be the wettest in more than a century. The wind blew over the farm, the rain came down and she heard the ominous pings on her roof — pea-sized hail, striking the still-fragile stalks of the only corn her husband, Chris Dykshorn, was able to plant before he took his own life in June.

Did their crop insurance cover hail damage? She had no idea. That was something Chris would have taken care of, if he were here. Instead she was alone, with nearly $300,000 in farm debt, three kids ages 5 to 13 and a host of grief-fueled questions. Why hadn’t she been able to save him? What would happen to them now?

She scrolled through his final texts, rereading his words, leaning on the kitchen counter next to a whiteboard with the kids’ chore list — Kahne: dishwasher, Kalee: dust living room — and a book someone gave her titled “Through a Season of Grief: Devotions for Your Journey from Mourning to Joy.”

Suicides in the Farm Belt are increasing, with many sources contributing to this epidemic (climate change and trade wars are just two factors). This is a sad but eye-opening article about the condition of a growing segment of the farming community.

And my second thought is "how will his survivors, friends, and neighbors vote in 2020?"

judging from their steadfast support for their dear leader, perhaps suicide is the only way they can deal with the realization that they've been had... if they figure it out that is. They can't live with the fact that they followed a charlatan into an abyss from which there is no escape and they can't live with trying to find a way out so they kill themselves.

to sneak into their heads and poisoned their minds is gonna prove to be astounding when all is said and done.

in an economy that was squeezing whole sectors to the point of tears, it was just a crime.

Her husband was very selfish, leaving his family to face this alone. Do any of the farm families take time out to sympathize with the tRump family and all the "sacrifices" they have made to put orange ass into the WH? Tragic, really as Don Jr. recounts it. Maybe some of the multi millionaire members of government who received lots of aid during the farm bailout, might send some of their ill gotten gains to help this family? They really should take time out from supporting the disgrace in the WH, and connect with REAL people for once.

Life insurance if he had any.

This is so so sad.

Maybe there will be a “gofundme” for her.

Too bad the 99% is stuck taking care of each other while the 1% keeps the bulk of the money to themselves.

JUST DISGUSTING on so many levels.
