How Trump could pull off another upset

It feels like August of 2016 all over again. Polls show Donald Trump losing big. Pundits proclaim he can't win. Reporters sneer at Trump voters on Twitter and cable.
Why it matters: There are several signs that should give the Trump-is-toast self-assured pause.
He’s doing better in some swing-state polls than he was at this point in 2016. And his floor of support holds strong, regardless of what he says or does.
Not only is the stock market on fire, but a lot of blue-collar workers in building, plumbing and other manual crafts are doing quite well, too.
Trump’s big bet is that there are a lot of working class voters, especially in rural areas, who did not vote in 2016 but will this time.
His other bet is that months of dumping on Joe Biden, often with lies or wild hyperbole, will do what he did to Hillary Clinton: Make the Democratic nominee seem slightly more unpalatable than himself.

The company that did the work was suffering because people didn't want construction workers in their homes for fear of spreading the virus. I closed a deal on the work and it was done the next day......
I worked in residential and commercial construction at different times in my career. Home Construction and renovations are a world different than commercial work. I see a lot of commercial work happening around me, not so much new home construction.
When millions of people are displaced due to the coming foreclosures the residential market will probably be very flat for construction. A heck of a lot of people are going to have their credit ruined even if they maintain control of their homes. That means they will be staying put when the economy improves, not moving up, and fewer and fewer workers will be able to qualify finance new homes. Landlords and other investors will have a field day.
In my area, the great majority of construction, especially in commercial/industrial work, workers are not American citizens, they migrate back and forth across the border as the work load increases or decreases. Central and South Americans don't go on unemployment, they go home.
The last large construction job I worked on, during the middle cycle of construction, there were about 400 workers on site. I would estimate that of those, at least 300 were migrant workers; some legal, some not. Most native Americans were foreman or supervisors. Now how the Republicans factor the workforce into their claims would be very interesting to see. Maybe they will be lauding all of the illegal jobs they are creating.
