1. This is an interesting part of the war that I never heard about in the sixties or since
It is good that this story was written. From memory, I don't think there were parades or anything for the soldiers either. I do remember there was a celebration when the POWs were freed.

3. I can't get into the Washington Post Magazine website, but
I do know that Pan Am flew into Vietnam during the war. My friend and I flew from Cam Ranh Bay to Japan and back for R&R in October 1967. Pan Am was a magnificent airline. All honor to the flight crews!
