Warren: GOP Race To Replace RBG, 'Last Gasp of A Desperate Party', We Don't Despair or Give Up
'Elizabeth Warren on the race to replace RBG: 'This is the last gasp of a desperate party.' By Mark Sumner, Daily Kos, 9/19/20.
- "Ruth was a fighter. No matter how hard the battle, she didnt give upand neither do we." - Eliz. Warren.
Stop me if youve heard this before, but
Elizabeth Warren speaks for me. Addressing our loss and the challenges weas a party, as a nation, as a peopleare facing following the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Warren captures both the emotional impact of the loss and the importance of what happens now.
- Warren's Address:
"Our grief is real, but we cannot slip into despair. We simply cant afford it, because too much is at stake. The Republicans are attacking so much that we hold dear. Roe vs. Wade. Voting. The fight to be an America where no one is discriminated against because of the color of their skin, because of how they worship, or because of who they love. Ruth defended it all
and now she is gone.
Four years ago, Mitch McConnell refused to move forward on President Obamas nominee because the president had only one year left on his term. Ruth understood the impact of McConnells decision on our democracy, and she left the nation a note saying that her most fervent wish was for her replacement not to be named until a new president is installed.
But Mitch McConnell isnt listening. He has already made it clear that he and Donald Trump will try to name a new Supreme Court justice with only 45 days until the election. This is the last gasp of a desperate party that is overrepresented in the halls of power; the last gasp of a corrupt Republican leadership that doesnt reflect the views of the majority of our people.

(1,686 posts)Everyone in the Republican Party is a deplorable or a selfish out for themselves and the hell with you type. Most however fall into one or both of those factions. Ive been a lifelong democrat because I am NOT a deplorable in any way shape or form and Im happy to give others less fortunate a helping hand. As a party, the democrats help others, the republicans help themselves.
We need a two party system to keep things in balance. Lets hope Joe and Kamala have a resounding victory and we keep the house and flip the senate. Then maybe the republicans can get their act together with balanced moderates where being a deplorable or self serving cheapskate is NOT encouraged with high fives and the far right trash which has taken over their party is ostracized.

We need to be clear -- even if the Trump Republicans are a dying party, appointing one more Justice guarantees that Trump Republicanism will become enshrined the law of the land long after they're gone, for the rest of my lifetime and my children's lifetimes. We have to somehow win this particular battle, or we've lost for good.
