Intel Officers 'Terrified' Of Briefing Trump On Russia Because He Would 'Explode'

“He’ll explode and the whole thing will get derailed, because he has this weird affinity for Putin,” a former national security officer said.

Intelligence officers in charge of briefing President Donald Trump on threats against the nation are reportedly “terrified” of speaking to him about Russia out of fear of how the president will react.

“No one’s going to brief anything on Russia to the president,” Marc Polymeropoulos told GQ correspondent Julia Ioffe. “They’re terrified of doing that. I know that from the briefers. Because he’ll explode and the whole thing will get derailed, because he has this weird affinity for [Russian President Vladimir] Putin.”

Asked why Putin is such a touchy subject, Polymeropoulos said that Trump “wants Putin to like him.”

“He doesn’t want to be embarrassed in front of Putin, that’s part of the dilemma,” he said.

“Just look at how he behaves with the Queen. That’s how he behaves with everyone who has any glamour and cachet,” he continued, adding, “Putin has everything he doesn’t have.”

The former official’s comments bolster a September report from Politico alleging that CIA Director Gina Haspel has been preventing intelligence about Russia from reaching the president’s ears to appease him.

4. "Terrified?"... what a woos... Look him in the eye, tell him the truth and walk out.. job done...

He's just a bully. Suck it up and do your job... I can imagine all the hospital workers walking into Covid wards are "terrified" also but do their jobs. YMMV

5. "wants Putin to like him."

Because Putin owns his ass and he has to keep him happy by doing everything that Putin demands.

What would Putin do to the USA? Everything Trump has done.

6. It's hard to ignore a tantrum ...

... when the baby throwing it can fire you, humiliate you, and destroy your future with his next tweet. I am certain that those around Trump have learned how to walk on eggshells.

7. Really relevant quote from Michael Cohen's book, pgs 245-246:

Let me orient you on Donald Trump’s views on the Russian leader. I’ll start by saying that the answer is so simple and obvious that it still astounds me that no one has grasped the real attraction. Ask yourself this question: What does Trump most admire or worship? The answer is money. Now, ask yourself, who is the richest man in the world?

“Putin is the richest man in the world by a multiple,” Trump often told me….”Imagine controlling twenty-five percent of the wealth of a country. Wouldn’t that be fucking amazing?”

“Putin isn’t president of Russia. He’s the ruler. He’s the dictator. The tsar. He can do whatever he wants. He’s going to be leader for the duration of his life.”

Trump didn’t say that disapprovingly, or with any emotion other than admiration bordering awe. His impulses weren’t democratic, in any sense of the word. Trump loved Putin because the Russian had the balls to take over an entire nation and run it like it was his personal company—like the Trump Organization, in fact.

8. Probably wise not to brief him; he'd spill the beans to Putin immediately.

Putin would have any HUMINT sources killed.
