Here's How Every Senator and Congress Member Has Responded to Biden's Victory

Of 253 Republicans in the U.S. House and Senate, only 13 had acknowledged Joe Biden as president-elect a week after he was declared the winner.

One week after all major news organizations declared Democrat Joe Biden the winner of the 2020 U.S. presidential election, only a smattering of Congressional Republicans have publicly acknowledged the former vice president’s victory over incumbent President Donald Trump.

According to new research by Snopes, just 13 out of 253 GOP members of the outgoing U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives (the 116th Congress) have made a public statement accepting Biden’s victory, referring to him as the president-elect, or congratulating him and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris.

Only 5% of national Republican lawmakers have publicly acknowledged Biden’s victory, despite the Democrat’s garnering 306 electoral college votes — the same total as Trump in 2016, and one that the outgoing president frequently referred to as a “landslide” — and that represents an extraordinary departure from American political conventions.

As Trump and his allies continue to make unsubstantiated and often easily debunked allegations of substantive and consequential electoral fraud, and in the continued absence of a concession by the outgoing president, the vast majority of Congressional Republicans appear unwilling to break ranks by congratulating Biden.

Thank you for taking time to share your thoughts on the integrity of our presidential election.

President Trump did a great job with unbelievable energy and dedication at the end of the campaign. We have set all-time records for voter participation. Every vote that was legally cast needs to be counted. Votes that were not legally cast should not be counted. As a former Secretary of State and a voter, I know it is essential that our election systems be protected to preserve the integrity of the voting process. Candidates have the right to use all of the tools available to them to ensure the votes are accurately counted. This process should be completely transparent so the American people are confident in the results. America will once again serve as an example to the world.

Again, thank you for contacting me. I look forward to continuing our conversation on Facebook (www.facebook.com/SenatorBlunt) and Twitter (www.twitter.com/RoyBlunt) about the important issues facing Missouri and the country.
