1. if and when trump does this, this will be brought before the Supreme Court and I really don;t see

even a 6-3 conservative court would uphold the self-pardon as it violates many tenants of law. I am truly hoping trump does the self-pardon thing and its thrown out after he leaves office and is FULLY subjected to countless federal charges and prosecution with the prospect of dying in prison a very real thing. Would love to see the RICO thrown at family trump as well and forfeiture of all trump assets US and foreign.

3. His path to a pardon is through Pence, and that requires a resignation.

Does anyone doubt that Pence would not do that to be President for a day? An added benefit for Trump would be, that if he resigned, in his crazy way of thinking, he could claim that he was not defeated.

4. I believe he would agree to do it

But it would be an act of political suicide

I more hope he agrees and does not go through with it which also would be an act of suicide, Poor pious Pence. He is caught between a criminal and a hard place.

5. Here is what I don't understand

What is he going to pardon himself from? Wouldn't that imply guilt? Number one, he will never admit he has done ANYTHING wrong. Number two, are there any FEDERAL lawsuits that have found him guilty of a crime?
Are we discussing the pardon of a Congressional Impeachment?
Sorry, but I am confused about this pardon discussion.

6. Blanket pardons should never be allowed

A pardon should only be applicable to specific alleged crimes. Richard Nixon's pardon should have been challenged. Trump will just give out blanket pardons to everyone, and then get Pence to give him one.

7. You are correct. Blanket pardons should be illegal.

8. Let's look to Nixon shall we?

This language has been unchanged for a long time. If it was true that the POTUS could pardon himself, why didn't Nixon simply pardon himself?

I don't think the POTUS can pardon himself. Trump might think so, crackpot GOP lawyers might think so, but in reality? No.
