Indoor Airflow Could Kill You, 6 Ft Not Enough For Social Distancing: Mask Use Indoors, Except Home

Now there are daily 9/11 death numbers in the US. The U.S. has recorded over 3,100 COVID-19 deaths in a single day, obliterating the record set last spring
Evidence of Long-Distance Droplet Transmission of SARS-CoV-2 by Direct Air Flow in a Restaurant in Korea
SEE Graph.
In conclusion, droplet transmission can occur at a distance greater than 2 m if there is direct air flow from an infected person in an indoor setting. Therefore, updated guidelines for quarantine and environmental management of COVID-19 are needed until approval of an effective treatment drug or vaccine.
Background: The transmission mode of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 is primarily known as droplet transmission. However, a recent argument has emerged about the possibility of airborne transmission. On June 17, there was a coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak in Korea associated with long distance droplet transmission.
Methods: The epidemiological investigation was implemented based on personal interviews and data collection on closed-circuit television images, and cell phone location data. The epidemic investigation support system developed by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency was used for contact tracing. At the restaurant considered the site of exposure, air flow direction and velocity, distances between cases, and movement of visitors were investigated.
Results: A total of 3 cases were identified in this outbreak, and maximum air flow velocity of 1.2 m/s was measured between the infector and infectee in a restaurant equipped with ceiling-type air conditioners. The index case was infected at a 6.5 m away from the infector and 5 minutes exposure without any direct or indirect contact.
* Conclusion: Droplet transmission can occur at a distance greater than 2 m if there is direct air flow from an infected person. Therefore, updated guidelines involving prevention, contact tracing, and quarantine for COVID-19 are required for control of this highly contagious disease.
* CDC: A person with #COVID19 can spread it for 2-14 days without showing any symptoms, and asymptomatic cases are common. You may not know you have COVID-19, so #WearAMask to help stop the spread. More tips: https://bit.ly/3aCaCyj...

(13,574 posts)platelets, I haven't set foot in a building I didn't absolutely have to since late March. I quit the platelets a month ago. I feel bad because they are begging for them in this area now.
I can't do it because in this area, the anti-maskers are all over. I'm recently retired from that blood center. They have precautions, but I know a couple of the staff haven't been serious about it in their off hours. With them and other donors that might not know they are infected, I can't risk it. I told them maybe if they need me as a designated donor for some kid or something, I might not be able to say no. Other than that, I'll be back when I'm vaccinated.

Just makes sense. These viruses can be transmitted long distances when being blown around by A/C or fans.

(360 posts)At 6ft there are 3 bullets in the chambers
at 20ft there is 1 bullet.
6ft is just a "magic number" at which the probability of exposure a bit less,
and they keep finding out it's less safe than previously thought.

(358 posts)There's nothing magical at all about 6' and covid-19. That number originated from tuberculosis epidemeology. The bad guy in T is much larger. It would make sense that coronavirus could travel much further.
I try to stay at least 10' away from humans in stores when I have to do errands. Otherwise, my old, high-risk self and husband have been isolating since March 2020.

(22,112 posts)if there are too many people in there, I turn around and leave or stay outside. It's not worth it and why chance it?
We're getting a wave of vaccines coming out, all we have to do is hang on, be safe, and this thing will eventually go away or be very minimized compared to what it is now.
I'm actually kind of waiting for the anti-vaccine folks to start screaming before long, but I could care f**king less about their feelings and such (I feel the same way w/ these anti-mask idiots too).
Too many of us have known friends, maybe some family sick w/ the CV, thank god all of the ones I known have gotten better.
If you're like me, I'm over and done w/ the CV, over and done with it!
Be careful and safe my friends.

(46,037 posts)I told them I'd be back once I've been vaccinated. The person I spoke to seemed quite understanding.
With Gavin Newsom's new procedures, I'm surprised the dental office is still open.

(21,596 posts)I wear a close fitting medical mask under a full coverage cloth mask every day.
My employer distributed 2 cloth face masks, a face shield, and a thermometer to people in my workplace. We are provided free disposable medical masks. I also have an N95 mask for when I have to go to medical appointments.
In addition, I get a weekly COVID19 test (DNA test: nasal swab in each nostril) as part of an asymptomatic testing program run by the the institution that employs me.
I carry hand sanitizer in my car at all times. I wash my hands constantly. I dont wear shoes in my house.
