'A nightmare': why were an elderly black couple targeted in a shocking Texas police raid?

Forth Worth police have still not said why Nelda Price and her husband John, who died weeks later, were restrained in their pajamas

While the police in Fort Worth, Texas, ransacked Nelda Price’s home, an officer directed her to put her hands together – as if she were praying – so he could restrain her with zip ties.

“I told him, ‘I am praying. Because I don’t understand why you’re here, and I don’t know what this is about,’” Nelda told the Guardian.

On 11 March, she and her husband John, both Black and in their late 60s, had been chatting in the dining room, dressed for bed, when a noise interrupted them. Nelda’s first instinct was to get up and investigate, but after John thought he heard gunshots, he pushed her to the floor.

By the time they looked up, Fort Worth police had already broken through their iron gate and were storming the front door, guns drawn. Without any explanation, the officers demanded that John and Nelda put their hands up, then took them outside for questioning.

"Reward quality Policing".
Department that have few if any Civil Rights and Human Rights cases against them should be rewarded with funding for the department and pay raised for officers.
On the other hand, violations of Civil and Human Rights should cost the department funds and a reduction in pay for all officers.

I think we would quickly see improvements to every department. Cops and unions would not find any benefit in protecting bad cops.

Nobody else gets an award when they are just doing their job right. Cops already get tons of awards... beyond getting paid REALLY well. I AM ok with "cutting department funds and a reduction in pay for all officers" when they suffer violations. It'll never happen though. Police Unions and entrenched ideology. Again, you're talking about rewarding cops that don't kill people or violate their rights... which honestly is sad, that that's what we've come to.

I've worked at many places where your pay increases are determined by how good your annual review is.

How we frame a question. Republicans were able to limit Unions by calling anti-union laws "Right to Work" laws and got away with it. We got no where and lost ground in the last election by the negative term, De-fund the police.
Using the same tactics of using language to do the opposite. "Reward Good Police" we might come up with policies that can remove bad cops and encourage other cops to report the bad ones because of the rewards of getting rid of those that cause Civil Rights awards by the courts.

of hire, or on an annual basis. If so, officer is eligible for annual, compounded bonus if record shows no violations. Fine tune this as necessary/

No bonus for cops just because they didn't act like a psychopath. Good lord.
