Trump Supporters Main Problem Was Never The Economy
The Capitol riot has ended the notion that the presidents hardcore base was motivated by economic anxiety. It has always been about race.

(HuffPost) Safe to say, the Donald Trump supporters who ransacked the U.S. Capitol last week werent short on cash or propelled by severe economic anxiety.
The insurrectionists came to Washington by plane. They stayed in Airbnbs and at the Embassy Suites. They wore costumes and carried weapons and iPhones. Some were cops. There were doctors, lawyers, a Chicago real estate broker, teachers ― even a school therapist. A CEO.
Sure, some of them couldve been impoverished former coal miners, as so many pundits have described a certain sect of Trump voters. But these people werent raging over the decline of the carbon-based economy. This was a riot about race and power. If there was economic anxiety, it was spurred by the rioters false notion that their place in the world is under threat.
We can stop talking about how white Americans voted for Trump because of economic interest. His appeal was never about money. (And Trump is leaving office with the economy in tatters, by the way. On Thursday, 1.15 million more people filed for unemployment.)
....(snip)....
Overwhelmingly theyve found that Americans who chose Trump were worried about losing their social status, their place in a country where white folks will soon be in the minority and where many women no longer seem to realize that men should be in charge. .........(more)

I thought that these martyrs were broke because the elite govt isn't fair to them. Isn't half of their whining related to how bad it has been for them and the govt doesn't help them and their situation. They can't get well paying jobs, can't afford college, etc. All that shit that they bring with them to fly across the country isn't free either. And what about all the expensive pick up trucks and boats that go to all of the rallies? I could never afford all of that stuff. I can barely afford my health insur."

(11,296 posts)And usually tendered up by "moderate" apologists that were desperately trying to sell "reasonable" -- usually to somebody that was holding a TV camera and a video feed. If you actually talk to humpers -- you'll quickly find out how little empathy they actually have for the displaced or the down and out. You have never heard a single one of these people talking about child care, early education, student loans, payday lending, DACA ... Nothing! Not a single damned thing that would have any impact in lifting a burden from the poor.
Excuse while I climb my rickety ass down off the soapbox -- 'fore I fall and break somethin'.
But -- "anxiety" my skinny bleepin' hind end -- how 'bout selfish and mean spirited down to the friggin' bone? Got a helluva lot more to do with it!
