A Republican urges lawmakers to impeach President Trump (al.com)

Updated Jan 13, 2021; Posted Jan 13, 2021

By Debbee Keller Hancock | Conservative political consultant

Dear Republican members of the U.S. House and Senate:

Over the past four years, many of you have justified your support for a president who often failed to espouse conservative values by claiming we had a binary choice between voting for an imperfect Republican candidate or voting for the Democrats’ liberal platform.

In the wake of last week’s violent riot at our nation’s Capitol, Republicans face another binary choice: condemn the attacks with meaningful action or condone them by doing nothing.

As the events unfolded on Jan. 6, many Republicans rose to the occasion, quickly condemning both the mob and Trump for instigating this deadly attack.

For a moment, it seemed as if unity had been restored, and Republicans and Democrats were on the same team: team USA.

Tweets and speeches are not enough to subvert another attack on our nation. If Republicans truly believe the events on Jan. 6 are, to quote a few Republican members, an “attack on democracy” and comparable to what was seen on their tours in Iraq - we have no choice but to impeach Trump.
