Because nothing says “I’m INNOCENT!” quite like trying to flee to a neutral country and then failing that, trying to kill yourself… and then failing at that.

- Law & Crime: A man who helped drag a police officer down the U.S. Capitol steps tried to flee to Switzerland after the day of the siege and then, in what authorities called a different type of flight effort, attempted suicide, prosecutors told a judge on Friday.

Jeffrey Patrick Sabol, a 51-year-old divorced geophysicist with three children, has not been charged with assault but rather under a civil disorder statute barring any effort to “obstruct, impede, or interfere” law enforcement.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Benjamin Gianforti claimed that Sabol was caught on tape by the Washington Post helping a mob drag an officer down the Capitol steps and bought a ticket to Zurich, Switzerland, a country without an extradition treaty to the United States. -

- NBC4 New York: Jeffrey Sabol turned himself in to FBI in Rye, New York, NBC 4 New York has learned. He is charged with obstruction of a law enforcement officer or federal function.

According to the federal prosecutor, Sabol was seen on video allegedly pulling an officer down the stairs, while allowing another man to hit the officer with a flag. Additionally, he may have assaulted another officer in an attempt to get their baton.

Sabol allegedly tried to flee the country to Switzerland, according to the federal prosecutor. He also allegedly attempted suicide following the Jan. 6 event, which the federal government notes is a sign of possible guilt. Sabol, a geophysicist who worked diffusing ordinances (sic) for military, was hospitalized, before being admitted into a psychiatric center... -

Just further proof of the surprisingly well-off status of a lot of these rioters. I hope this guy has plenty of life remaining in either a prison or mental institution.
