A Missouri pastor is reportedly seeking 'professional counseling' after he told women to lose weight

A Missouri pastor is reportedly seeking 'professional counseling' after he told women to lose weight and strive to be like Melania Trump for their husbands

A Missouri pastor is seeking "professional counseling" after having delivered a sermon that advised women to lose weight and aspire to resemble former first lady Melania Trump.

Pastor Stewart-Allen Clark of Missouri's Malden First General Baptist Church is on leave and in counseling, the church told local CBS News affiliate KCTV. Clark made waves with a Sunday sermon in February where he said that women should strive to stay slim to keep men interested.

"Now look, I'm not saying every woman can be the epic, epic trophy wife of all time like Melania Trump. I'm not saying that at all," Clark said during his sermon, as a photo of Trump was shown behind him on screen.

"Most women can't be trophy wives, but you know, maybe you're a participation trophy," he continued. "I don't know, but all I can say is not everybody looks like that. Amen! Not everybody looks like that. But you don't need to look like a butch either."

Baptist Missouri pastor's sermon against fat wives is not so shocking
BY MELINDA HENNEBERGER
MARCH 06, 2021 05:00 AM, UPDATED 8 HOURS 25 MINUTES AGO

A Baptist preacher in the Missouri Bootheel went on leave this week after his sermon advising that those women who "can't be the epic trophy wife of all time like Melania Trump" should still try to compete in wifely hotness. "Maybe you're a participation trophy."

There was nothing particularly Bible-based about Pastor Stewart-Allen Clark's many tips to the women in his flock at First General Baptist in Malden on how to keep their husbands from being "distracted."

As Jesus never said, but Clark did: "You don't need to look like a butch."

Somehow missing from the Sermon on the Mount: Blessed are those who don't wear sweatpants or slouch around Walmart in flip-flops, but do put on makeup and perfume. "You don't want to be ugly and stink," he told the women in his church.

Clark's wife used to be "quite robust" herself, he said, but praise God went to Weight Watchers after the birth of each of their children.

Although I strongly suspect he's only going because it's a condition for maybe keeping his job, so ... I bet he doesn't get much from it.

Okay, so there is a chubby guy out there telling women to slim down. That's pretty much the way of the world. It's misogynistic and it's wrong but it's hardly news.

What people in this Pastor's church need to remember if they want to flex their religious street cred is that their own sacred text condemns coveting another man's wife. Their Savior told them not to look upon a woman with lust and one of their founding Apostles told women to dress modestly.

But Pastor Clark wants the married women in his congregation to look sexy so that their husbands have trophy wives that supposedly reflect well upon their husbands'. . . what? . . Their material success? . . . Their virility? Basically, Clark doesn't find his married female church members as desirable as he does Melania Trump.

This is the real hypocrisy that needs to be thrown in the face of the strand of Christians who blame women for being raped, try to deny them reproductive freedom and sexual autonomy and want to enact policies that trash the environment and destabilize politics so that Jesus comes back to rule the world they way they want him to.

I know that last part doesn't seem like it relates very directly to my main thesis but that's the biggest problem that I have with that sort of believer. Fat-shaming women is nothing compared to eagerly awaiting the literal end of the world.

Fat-shaming is bad, but you are so right. It's horrible to realize that, because we think differently about religion, some of my own family members may fantasize about seeing me and millions of other people tossed into burning lakes. What sick twisted thinking!

It reveals that he is superficial, only concerned with the outer appearance (like the Pharisees BTW)
It reveals he is a sexist and a misogynist, holding a fossilized attitude which objectifies women.
It contradicts any teaching of Jesus, St. Paul, or any Biblical doctrine.
It promotes a lustful orientation towards women.

"An epic trophy wife" ??? Really ????
What exactly makes her an ideal wife ?
Is it the breast augmentation ? the nude photos ? her shallowness ?
This guy is beyond offensive. He is proof of human devolution (whip it good!)

How the hell is this guy a pastor of any church?

Oh, Missouri. . . that explains everything.
