How does CNN take a smashing victory and turn it into a warning?
https://www.cnn.com/2021/09/18/politics/biden-california-democrats-midterms/index.htmlWhat's the strategy here? To look like they are "moderate" or being "fair"? To try to motivate Democrats to turn out in 2022 (which, by the way, is going to be necessary everywhere)? Or are they just trying to find the dark clouds in the bright sunshine of a victory that was motivated by opposition to and fear of Trump, both of which are healthy, good, on the right track and able to win elections?
Or is it just that this news network doesn't really have good, competent, knowledgeable political analysts?

(6,444 posts)I for one look at it as a great win that validates the idea people want a government that works to protect them and meet their pressing needs. So just as President Biden did we need to press this theme and also not hesitate to show exactly whats at stake when you have a neoconfederate running for the ex party of Lincoln. If that individual prevails it means the destruction of our democracy, the death of science and progress and danger to our lives. This is whats on the ballot: life or suffering and death under the jackboots of a slavering Trump servicing cretin like DeathSantis or Abbutthole. Yes the corporate media carries water for them but we push back and not let them provide cover and seize the narrative and not let them set it.

(6,444 posts)Obviously his message of fighting the pandemic and keeping people safe against those in the Neanderthal party who would see them harmed resonated. A lesson to be learned.

(6,444 posts)They at least showed rudimentary evidence of civilized behavior unlike the GOP death cult which is devoted to pure destruction:

(43,141 posts)that Democrats performed better then usual for a CA recall election, but that Republicans underperformed by quite a lot, perhaps because of apathy, a POC candidate who they found uninspiring, or just fatigue with their hyper partisanship. So while I'm delighted with the outcome, I would not prepare future landslide headlines as a result. Just saying, stick to normal, realize the risks of all elections, and keep feet moving.

(432 posts)Maybe the CNN Chief Marketing Officer tells CNN Bosses they can sell more ads with a close horse race - so the bosses tell the Chief Programming Officer to invent this BS.
But the real narrative here is that Trumpism is dying, and the biggest threat to human survival is the blowout was so big, Democratic voters will be lulled into lethargy.

(11,300 posts)or question mark in the recall. The GOP managed to spike that gun - by elevating another 'caricature' candidate as frontrunner. There are really no other 'larger' messages or takeaways involved in this election - either for CA or for 22 on the national level. In short, most of the equations remain pretty much the same - and the world today looks a whole lot like it did yesterday.
