Build Back Better delivers results for home care workers

One year ago, home care workers, and especially the women of color who hold the majority of home care jobs in our country, came out in force, exercised their right to vote, and helped deliver control of the White House and Congress to Democrats.

And over the past year, we've watched as Democrats delivered on the campaign promises they made. They passed the American Rescue Plan, putting money in pockets and shots in arms. They've turned the tide against COVID-19, even as the Republican Party fought against basic, commonsense public health measures like encouraging people to wear masks and social distance.

And this month, with President Biden signing his Build Back Better agenda into law, Democrats have delivered once again for the working people who gave them their vote last year.

Among the many historic provisions included in the Build Back Better plan, Democrats have delivered full, robust funding - $150 billion in total - to invest in America's care infrastructure and the care workers who perform critical services for veterans, older adults, and people with disabilities every single day in cities and towns across our country.

And with people living far longer and healthier, but not necessarily capable of being independent, this is an enormous need.

This is intended to also provide desperately needed help also to family members trapped caring for elderly and disabled relatives, including hopefully tax credits and deductions for outlays, not entirely clear, for younger relatives is mentioned. Seven times as many female relatives become elder caregivers than male. This article refers to the plight of sandwich generations forced to care for younger and older, but all may be forced to make huge personal sacrifices, on a downslope to destitution in their own elder years. I assume many will be able to become paid caregivers under this funding. What else?

Would this bill include equitable consideration for related caretakers during property settlements as part of probate? Or will that be taken up in another bill? I didn't see it mentioned, though I don't doubt that other huge problems like this are of concern to this adminstration.

In any case, good for what we are doing.
