The House Office of Congressional Ethics found substantial reason to believe Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-Texas) spent campaign funds on personal expenses, according to documents released Monday.
The accusations into the former White House physician center around his campaigns payments to the Amarillo Club, a private dining club in Amarillo, Texas. While campaigns can pay private clubs to host specific and verifiable events, the House Ethics Manual explicitly bars them from covering unlimited access to a club. As the ethics report points out, disclosures filed with the Federal Election Commission show Jacksons campaign making consistent payments to the Amarillo Club since October 2020, including various disbursements for dues and membership fees.
While the report states Jackson, his campaign treasurer and its accountant refused to cooperate with the inquiry, the lawmakers attorneys told the committee that all of the payments at issue were legitimate campaign expenses for meeting spaces. A spokesperson for his Congressional office said it had no further comment.
In April, the committee disclosed that it had launched an investigation into Jackson. At the time, the panel did not provide any details about the inquiry............................................
