(17,000 posts)Umair is a British Economist. I didnt care what Fauci has to say about the economy and I don't care what Umair has to say about public health.
His claim that
And sooner or later, Covid will revert to its mean a new variant will emerge that is more like Delta. is not supported by science. The opposite, however, is Because the goal of a virus is to survive, replicate, and spread, it tends to evolve toward being more infectious and less deadly.

(1,849 posts)Thanks for sharing the article. It was informative.
I'd just read the one I've shared below, which discusses similar and parallel issues and concerns.
I was researching information on cognitive dissonance and wearing masks and taking precautions, and current CDC guidelines and information. They haven't updated their guidelines since February, and they are clearly pushing vaccines and not pushing for masks. But they do have a (hard to find) link to enter your state and county to determine the threat level, and say you should then consult your MD to decide if you should wear a mask, or you could choose to wear one if there are certain risk factors. I'm sharing that CDC link. I was not impressed.

As far as the politico article I read, it struck me as harsh on Biden administrations approach to the increase in cases and the potential for long covid. Still, it also raised important issues about long covid and policies that are not comprehensive.
"The Biden administration is betting that Covid infections for most people are now so mild that its safe for much of the country to go maskless, a strategy helping the White House avoid political backlash against stricter safety requirements.
But that strategy comes with the risk that millions of Americans, including the healthy and vaccinated, could suffer long-term health effects from Covid infections.
The policy could leave millions with a lifetime of little understood disease or medical complications. Those who get infected are at higher risk of brain shrinkage, blood clots, heart disease, strokes and diabetes, studies show. A separate post-viral syndrome called long Covid can cause a range of debilitating symptoms from cognitive dysfunction to extreme fatigue, according to federal estimates."

(1,395 posts)It's really all just common sense and science, 2 things that about 90% of people don't have when it comes to Covid. Greed and selfishness rules their lives, risks to themselves and others be damned.
