LTE: Quiz Republican candidates on Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol attack

It is time for every candidate running for state or federal office to condemn the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, and the treasonous actions of then-President Trump on that day. If candidates refuse to condemn Trump’s role in the attack, we must assume they condone the attack and the other attempts by Trump to stay in office after his election defeat.

It appears many Republican candidates prefer to remain silent on this matter. I am sure they wish it would just go away, along with all the other documented illegal or improper activities of our former president. However, the threat to our democracy has not gone away. Trump still claims he won, without providing any real evidence. Many of his supporters still believe him and are spreading his lies. Others are running for office in swing states to be in a position to revise vote totals. Pay attention. This is really happening!

I encourage all voters to demand that candidates repudiate the despicable actions of Trump after he lost his re-election bid. Any candidate who refuses to do this does not deserve the responsibility of elected office. Please vote!
