The Alameda County Sheriffs Office stripped 47 deputies of their arresting powers and firearms after an audit determined they should not have been hired in the first place because they failed to pass psychological evaluations, officials said Monday.
The office conducted the internal audit in the aftermath of the arrest of Deputy Devin Williams Jr., said Lt. Ray Kelly, an agency spokesperson. Williams, 24, is in custody on suspicion of murdering a Dublin couple at their home in an execution style shooting earlier this month.

(14,898 posts)perfectly aware that all these people failed their psych evals, they simply mistakenly believed they were nevertheless allowed to hire people who happened to fail psych evals. Just a little misunderstanding about what the rules were. Oopsie.

(33,643 posts)Alameda County Sheriffs along with SF & Oakland PD in particular have a LONG history of abuses and usurpations, as I'm sure you're familiar with. And then there's the freaking BART Police. When I was younger and Solano was a much poorer county overall than it is now, the Sheriffs there were definitely dicks. May've changed a bit, but likely not that much I'd guess.
And I'd add that just cause it's now called a 'liberal bastion' doesn't mean it was always so, nor that we don't have the same police problems as damn near everywhere else. In reality it's at best 60-40 liberal if you look at the handful of Bay Area counties from San Mateo to SF to Marin to Solano to Contra Costa to Alameda. There's still PLENTY of 'red' all around, and there always has been.
